Turkey Ball Champs!

Lakan/UNC aka Arstars lol
LEGIT
This past weekend, this random squad got together and came out on top for the 4th Annual Turkey Ball basketball tournament. Darwin Garcia, Scruff, and I organized a last minute squad and all the stress didn't go to waste! From the first tip-off, LakUnc seemed to gel right away and cruised to 3 double-digit victories against 3 of the top teams of Toronto: Durham, Vaughan, and the Saints. Sunday afternoon saw LakUnc faceoff against a TO powerhouse, Falcons in the finals.. we prevailed.
Splash to Darwin aka Pin n Spin and Scruff for handling the organization.. and of course the rest of the players, JMac (assistant coach/"the voice"), Neil Nacita aka Mr. Comeback, the bruisers: Mark De Castro and Geoff Malana, the secret weapon Clint Villardo, Prince Ramirez who is in the pic but was on the IR list for the tournament, the speedsters: Nathan Momongan and Jon Erfe, Nick G aka the Vet, and Matthew Wright.. the smooth operator. This team brought major "intense city" and was a great combination of talent of player 1-11. I was personally impressed with the chemistry, and was extremely proud to be part of a championship team again! The knees didn't feel TOO old this weekend.
Also a splash to the fan support. All the family and friends of the team! Darlene, for being the #1 support. And I can't remember the last time I had my whole family watching a game of mine! SICK! And of course, Jayden.. who was hugging every little girl he seen.
This weekend, 25 for Life is holding a TO Cream of the Crop tournament, where the winner plays the Ex-PBA squad that's touring the country this month. Should be exciting! Lakan UNC will be joining the Durham squad but will unfortunately be missing pieces on both days.
Hopefully, we'll still be strong enough to pull off some upsets.
I'll keep you informed..

NBA Season

The 09-10 NBA Season is a month away and I'm getting damn excited! Transactions were going off like a bank this summer and pretty much every team had a solid change... except for the Kings for some reason. You'd think having the worst record in the league make you wanna change SOMEthing. But hey, I'm not a GM. Anyway, I'm gonna go Division by Division for the next week or so to give my opinion of each team in the league. Agree with me or not.

Southwest Division: (going in order of their 08-09 standings)

San Antonio Spurs
08-09: 1st SW Div.
09-10 Predic: 1st SW

Analysis: As always.. the Spurs' outcome will depend on their health. They added some nice depth to their team with all-around offensive scorer RJ, veteran Antonio McDyess, solid backup Keith Bogans, and rookie Dejuan Blair. The rookie's 6'7", but he's a tank. Coach Pop is one of the best at utilizing role players. The new additions will definitely help the Big 3, especially at times of an unexpected injury.. or expected. The biggest loss: Bruce Bowen via trade/retirement. Yes he was getting old, and yes noone really liked him.. but you can't help but appreciate the fire he brought out of the game's Elite scorers. His role was to give em a hard time. It was his job, and he did it well. His absence pretty much takes away the swag that San Antonio had all those years. How intimidating are they defensively now without the guy that pissed everyone off? I guess we'll find out.
If healthy, I say Finals. Then again.. no Bowen for Kobe.

Houston Rockets
08-09: 2nd SW Div.
09-10 Predic.: 3rd SW

Analysis: I'm a fan of this team. Full of workhorse roleplayers! Newly added was one of the league's top roleplayers in Trevor Ariza. Sad to say, the Yao-TMac duo will once again be impossible to see this year. But with TMac somewhat healthy surrounded by the mirage of roleplayers the Rockets have.. Houston can still cause some damage. Aaron Brooks is coming off a solid rookie year, and my undercover-favourite big man combo ScoLandry will continue to cause mayhem in the paint! It won't be highly successful, but the Houston fans will have a fun year. Yao's presence later in the year could shed a lot of light.

Dallas Mavericks
08-09: 3rd SW Div.
09-10 Predic.: 2nd SW

Analysis: J-Kidd and Dirk are gonna love their season this year. Thanks to 2 words.. The Matrix. Kidd's assist count will be on an uprise with Marion running the lanes, and Dirk can shoot as much as he wants with Marion being the one of the greatest at chasing loose balls. This team's STACKED! Minus Stackhouse, of course. Terry and Howard will still continue to do their thing and hopefully strive with the running game. Damp's still effective, Gooden will provide good minutes off the bench, QRoss is an effective defender, and Tim Thomas will make a solid veteran impact when he's back from injury. And continue to keep an eye on my boy, JJ Barea!!!
If the Mavs get the chemistry going, they may sneak into the Western Finals!

New Orleans Hornets
08-09: 4th SW
09-10 Predic.: 4th SW

Analysis: I really don't see much of a change from last year. The Chandler for Okafor deal didn't seem to help anybody. I thought the activity of Tyson Chandler was good for the Hornets, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Neither of the 2 are great at staying healthy. I guess New Orleans can only hope that CP3 turns even more fantastic, David West's back feels good, and that their shooters keep hitting.
If they could still overcome the powerful Western Conference into the playoffs, I still see a first-round exit.

Memphis Grizzlies
08-09: 5th SW
09-10: 5th SW

Analysis: The most interesting experiment in the NBA this year!!! I read an article that showed Memphis being last in the league in some sort of ball-movement-% stat. Enter Allen Iverson and Zach Randolph. Not to knock on AI (coz I love him as much as anyone), but MAN what was Memphis thinking? 2 blackholes to a young team? I mean not that Iverson doesn't pass, but we all know he demands the ball NUFF. Zach Randolph is pretty much an "in the paint" version of AI, and he's a headcase. I really think its horrible for upcoming stars, Rudy Gay and OJ Mayo, who were supposed to be a dynamic duo of the future. OJ's promising career may have just hit a speedbump. But hey.. nothing's impossible. If coach Lionel Hollins actually gets this team to gel.. Then he's got my vote for Coach of the Year!

Next stop.. Pacific Division

Been a while..So much to say

Hello all, I know its been many a day since I've written last.. that is if anyone's paying attention. A lot's been going on.. Lotta Ups and Downs to discuss.

Unfortunately, Jacksonville didn't exactly go as planned. Wanted to go in there and get the job done, but fell short. In our first game, we had a huge brawl that was somehow heard 'round the US and Canada in a matter of minutes! lol pretty funny thinkin back at it now. Oh man. Anyhow, team played really well in our 2 opening games.. a nice win over Bayonne, NJ (ended with 10 minutes left due to the rumble), and a well played game vs. Jacksonville Kings. Got sloppy the 3rd game of the day vs. Tampa but still pulled it off. In an 8:30am affair, Sunday morning, we were outplayed by a Hoopsville, NY team that scouted us well the day before. Although it was a lopsided game, I still believe we had the right group of guys to beat that team.. just failed to show up. Overall, a fun trip.. just a disappointing outcome. Got to spend time with cousin Darren and my Ninong/Ninang in Orlando after Jacksonville for some quality relaxing time. Also got to meet up with my sharpshooter from Durham College, Nick Simpson.. who lives in Fort Lauderdale and came down to visit. So Florida was a great time!

Quick Splash to everyone that helped make the Florida trip awesome! LIVE. T.O. don't love U. We gotta re-up for next year in Virginia!

Fil-Act Offseason signings have officially started! Another exciting year is among us lol.

Songs of the Moment:
Ryan Leslie - Gibberish
Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys - Empire State of Mind (song of the trip.. played before every game)

RIP Mark Reyes - didn't know you for too long.. but man you were hilarious. Pretty sure everyone that knew you agrees with me. Rest In Peace man

RIP Patrick Swayze - I was a fan. Roadhouse, Outsiders, To Wong Foo, Dirty Dancing, Point Break. I even have "She's Like the Wind" in my iPod. You'll be missed.

umm what else? Oh yea, America's stupid. This season's America's Best Dance Crew is probably the best season "Competition-wise", as in a lot of the crews are just as good as the rest of the crews. But none of em are as 'out of your seat' fantastic as Quest Crew, BeatFreaks, Jabbawockeez and Kaba Modern. Again, just my opinion. Rhythm City's gone, who in my opinion was the best overall. Super-clean and perfectly flashy! Now leftover is a decent latin group who surprised a lot of us but still probably isn't good enough to win(Afroborike), a fun girl group that isn't quite as good as last year's BeatFreaks(We Are Heroes), and season 4's version of SuperCr3w.. a group with amazing tricks and horrible choreography(Massive Monkees). Oh well, what can you do? Rhythm City woulda been the only group worthy of the title, I think. Not always agreeing with the judges either.. then again did ANYONE agree with Lil Mama going on stage during the Jay-Z/Alicia performance at the VMAs? who are you? lol. Fabolous said it best "Lil Mama is the bird that flew outta Lady Gaga's nest in her face". It was just a perfect performance.. going so smoothly.. then...Lil Mama? Sorry to get dramatic, but that ruined my life lol. It was like walking on a quiet beach after finding out you won a billion dollars, then having a bird crap on your shoulder.

The almost perfect picture:

Doesn't it remind you of the 1992 US Dream Team.. with Christian Laettner

Anyway lol... right now, taking time to focus on me and where to go from here. Been trying to make a move for years now.. just gotta make the right move. Sacrifice. Hope I could find my way... til next BLOWWWG, GSL

Jacksonville

A week and a half away..

I WANT THIS TOURNAMENT. I'm not flying all that way and spending all that money to do anything else.. I WANT THIS! There's gonna be 18 teams in our division and I'm pretty sure the competition is gonna be solid... but man.. we better be ready. Other teams better be ready. I want the best of the best to show up and just let hard work prevail. Last practice this Saturday and I hope the intensity gets picked up. I.. WANT.. THIS!!!

Jacksonville, here we come!
